General Combination Lock Requirements

In addition to lock group specifics all combination locks must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for a UL rating:

  • Enable at least 1 000 000 combinations.
  • Withstand 10 000 cycles of combination dialing at no more than 48 RPM.
  • Withstand vibration at closest resonant frequency for 2 hours.
  • Built using non corrosive materials.

    Combination Lock Ratings (Ordered from lowest to highest level of protection)

  1. Group 2: 
    • Some resistance to opening attempts.
    • Not suitable for any UL Rated safes.
  2. Group 2M:
    • 2 hours resistance to expert attacks.
    • Used on TL-15, TL-15×6, and TL-30 safes.
  3. Group 1:
    • 20 hours resistance to expert attacks.
    • Special construction techniques not found in other locks.
    • Can be found on any UL rated safe but must be used (or Group 1R used) on TRTL rated safes and TXTL rated safes.
  4. Group 1R:
    • 20 hours resistance to expert attacks.
    • Resistance to radiological techniques (ie. X-rays). Synthetic polymers must withstand aging and humidity.
    • Special construction techniques not found in other locks.
    • Can be found on any UL rated safe but must be used (or Group 1 used) on TRTL rated safes and TXTL rated safes.
